I knew Julie when she was in preschool. She was so sweet and kind to everyone. I am sorry to hear of her passing. Sarah Woodworth (The Sandbox).
Julie, so funny, so smart, so friendly, so crazy. You saw the world is a different way and took on its challenges. Tasks will go undone. Words will not be said. Ideas will go unthought. All will have to go forth to fill your shoes.
The University of Arizona Artworks family holds Julie tight in our hearts. When we first met Julie, she came into my studio with a warmth toward all our artists. We ask the medical students questions to help everyone feel a connection with each other. Julie's question was "what's your favorite cookie?" She looked around and said "Well I can give a cookie, but to be honest, I think I would rather have a nice juicy piece of chicken!" This answer made us love her so much! While we didn't agree with her 'food choices, we loved that she felt comfortable with us to show her real self. It opened the door to relentless good hearted teasing about her absence of a love of cookies. We quickly learned her name and we looked forward to her visits. Julie's warmth and great sense of humor made a lasting impression with us.
With each new year, we get new medical students. We share the story of Julie and her answer to the cookie question. We are so glad she decided to help with the C.U.P. program at Artworks.
Julie had such a profound impact on the science and culture of my lab. She always made sure new students were welcomed and felt they were at home. She loved to get everyone together for celebrations both big and small. Julie was a caring and talented scientist, writer, photographer and so much more. Her creative mind, humor and kindness will be missed immensely. My condolences to the family.
