Charlene Grace (Paul) Rosman

Charlene Grace (Paul) Rosman, age 89, died in her sleep in the early morning Tuesday, May 10. She leaves her husband of 65 years, Irwin (Ace), her sons Brian Rosman (and Rabbi Barbara Penzner) and Richard Rosman (and Johanna), four grandchildren, Aviva Rosman Gaw (and Colin Gaw), Katie Rosman, Yonah Rosman, and Emma Rosman, and two great-grandsons, Isaiah and Asa Gaw. Charlene lived in Tucson most of her life. She arrived at age 9. Her parents, Charles and Reva Paul, established several hotels, ending with the famed Pueblo Hotel. She graduated from the University of Arizona and taught elementary school. She also earned an MA in Library Science at the U of A. Charlene and Ace established the Charlene Shops, selling dresses and women’s sportswear, first on Pennington Street downtown and later in Monterey Village, as well as other locations. In addition to working at the store, she also volunteered in the Tucson Public Libraries and the Mini Time Machine Museum. Charlene was very active in the Jewish community. She grew up at Temple Emanu-El and attended classes at the Stone Avenue Temple site. She was honored by the Tucson Federation Women’s Division as their Woman of the Year, and was active in the Temple Sisterhood and National Council of Jewish Women. Donations may be made to Jewish Family & Children’s Services of Tucson, or to HIAS, in recognition of her parents, who emigrated from Ukraine.
