Geneva Maxine Johnson
December 9, 1920 - July 25, 2020
Geneva Maxine Johnson, 99, Geneva went to be with the Lord on July 25, 2020. She is reunited with her lifetime best friend and husband of 58 years, Melvin and daughter, Karen Downing. She is survived by daughters Sharon Gardner (Steve) and Patty Bobich, eight grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Geneva was born in Salina Kansas and was the oldest of ten siblings. After marrying Mel they struggled through the Great Depression working a number of jobs just to survive. These included everything from driving a taxi to Mel working on Mt. Rushmore. Many of her stories during this era were quite funny. Others not so much. What she did emphasize was that no matter how hard the situation, good, old fashioned hard work allowed them to persevere, a lesson she wished kids today would learn. Geneva was strong spirited and sometimes tried to hide under a tough shell but underneath was a heart of gold. A small family graveside service is planned for Monday, August 3rd. In lieu of flowers a donation to the American Cancer Society in her name would be appreciated. To ensure the health and safety of our community, we are following all guidelines set by local, state and CDC officials.
