Phyllis W Becker May 26, 1942- Phyllis W. Becker passed away at home surrounded by her husband and 2 daughters. She is survived by her husband Burt, daughters Beth Becker of Silver Spring, MD and Amy Platizky (Adam Platizky) of Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by her brother Irwin Weinberg of Boca Raton, FL. Phyllis was born in the Bronx to Aaron and Eva Weinberg where she graduated from Columbus High School and began her life long love of the New York Yankees. She then completed a three year nursing program at Beth Israel Hospital where she met her husband of 54 years, Burt. They were married in May of 1966 and spent 2 years at Ft. Huachuca, AZ followed by 2 years in Dallas, TX. They moved to Tucson permanently in 1971. After their daughters grew up, Phyllis returned to her nursing career and worked at Kino Hospital for 17 years where she quickly became a favorite of her patients and colleagues. In 2000, Phyllis was named one of Tucson’s Nifty Fifty Nurses. When she wasn’t working at the hospital, Phyllis ran the Cong. Anshei Israel Women’s League Gift Shop for over 30 years and received a Woman of Valor award from the Tucson Jewish Community. When not working or shopping for the gift shop, Phyllis could be found at McKale Center cheering on her BasketCats while working on her latest needlepoint, at the nearest garage sale or thrift shop searching for books to read or out/at home with friends and family. Phyllis was loved and cherished by her family and friends and all who knew and worked with her. The family would like to acknowledge the loving care provided by Pepe’s Hospice of Tucson and Senior Home Care of Tucson. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Ceremony and Shiva, in keeping with Jewish tradition, will be held with COVID-19 appropriate modifications including visitation by appointment and guests will be asked to wear masks. Contributions can be made to Tucson Friends of the Public Library, the Women’s League of Cong. Anshei Israel or the American Cancer Society.
