Eddie was a very special friend. He was intelligent, personable, and made one always feel at home with him. Ed was always joking around, even until his last days. The first time I met him is when we visited Ed and Becky in California. Justin was a baby, then. Eddie came out with a baby and hit the head on the door frame, or so we thought. Becky yelled at him from the other room. We later found out that he had a doll, and he hit his hand on the wall to make a loud noise. He loved pulling Becky's chain, and I think she got used to it over the years.
When we went to the house for what was to be the last time, I asked him where the bell was to call for Becky. His eyes brightened up and said that maybe it should be a bull horn. Of course Becky said that if we brought one to him, she would not let us in the house. I was tempted to come back the next day and smuggle one in to him. I didn't get the chance to do that, but it really showed good character to overlook trouble and pain and not complain.
We will always keep good memories of our friend, Eddie and keep him close to our hearts. Tom, my husband, did a good job of matching Ed and Becky as a couple.
