Aaron Thompson's Obituary
Aaron Thompson, affectionately known to family and friends as "CB", passed away on April 5, 2013, with his family at his bedside. Born September 1, 1930 in El Dorado, Arkansas to the late Cleaven Thompson and Della Ellis, he moved to Arizona many years ago. CB is survived by his loving companion of over fifty years, Rose Carroll. In that time he helped raise Rosie Joe-Heirshberg (Dan), Lizzie Carter, OD "Sonny" Carroll (Norma), Leroy Carroll, Zo Carroll (Mary), Meredith Franklin, and Marilyn Carroll. CB was a father figure to Anna, Tommy, and Josie, whom he helped raise, Sarina, who was a constant presence in his life, and most recently, his great grandchild Ireyon. He was affectionately known as "Paw Paw" to all the grandchildren. He is also survived by his children, Raymond, Ronnie, Barbara Marie and Beverly, sisters Dorsie Cockerham, Mary Hines, Virda Warren, Nellie Steed, Marzell Johnson, and Willean Stowers, and brother Cleamers Thompson. He is predeceased by older brother Clifton and youngest brother, Grady. As a young man and resident of Yuma Arizona, CB was a member of the Second Baptist Church and sang regularly in the church quartet. He was a truck driver and for many years enjoyed driving his "big rig." CB's career unexpectedly ended when he was hurt on the job. When at home, he could often be found at the park chatting with his friends. CB was a strong man, with many talents. He was a great cook, and loved doing it. He loved it when special dishes were requested, whether it was barbeque, burritos, salmon croquettes, or greens and pot roast. He enjoyed making a big breakfast of bacon, eggs, sausage and potatoes, especially for grandson Tommy. CB always made sure he baked a chocolate cake, along with a variety of other desserts for the big meals on holidays because that was always a favorite. Most importantly,CB was a positive influence to all who knew him. Always a protector of his loved ones, he was a rock, and at the same time a true gentleman. We are comforted to know that CB is now back on the road, heading to his next destination.
