Alan Cohen's Obituary
Alan Cohen, 84, born February 7, 1928 in Portland, Oregon, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on June 28, 2012. Predeceased by parents Morris and Regina Cohen, brother Edwin Cohen and son-in-law David Woods. Al was the beloved husband of Leatrice with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. Also survived by children Carin Woods, David Cohen, Scott Cohen and grandchildren Aaron Woods, Hilary Cohen, Brooke Cohen, Carl Cohen, Benjamin Cohen and sister-in-law Ilaine Cohen. Al graduated from Lincoln High School in Portland and from the University of Oregon in 1949 where he played baseball for 4 years and was elected team captain in 1949. He played professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians organization and for the old Tucson Cowboys during the 1950's. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity, a 50 year member of the Oasis Lodge number 52, Scottish Rite, Sabbar Shriner, and a 30 year past member of the Tucson Conquistadors. He started his own independent insurance agency in 1960. Al was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed. "The flag is in the hole on the 18th green." Many thanks to Dr. Thomas Brown, his excellent staff and all the chemo nurses at the Arizona Cancer Center for their compassionate care over the last 3 years and to Pam A and staff of Casa de la Luz for their tender supportive care during Al's last days. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, July 1st at EVERGREEN MORTUARY, N. Oracle Rd. & W. Miracle Mile. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Congregation Anshei Israel, 5550 E. 5th St., Tucson, AZ 85711; Arizona Cancer Center, 3838 N.
