Albert "Al" Irwin Niemeyer's Obituary
Albert Irwin “Al" Niemeyer, 90, of Marana, passed away peacefully on May 18th, 2022, from complications following a stroke.
Al was born on May 27, 1931, in Leavenworth. But in 1941 he moved with his mother to Washington, D.C. After graduating from Coolidge High School in 1949, he worked in various professions, including photography, as a radio/TV personality, and finally in the then-burgeoning field of computer programming for the U.S Army. In 1952, he married the love of his life, Joyce Shearin, with whom he had five children.
In 1967, Al moved his family to Sierra Vista following the transfer of the Army Strategic Communications Command to Ft. Huachuca. Al participated in founding the Sierra Vista United Methodist Church, and was active with scouting, Freemasonry, and DeMolay. After Al’s retirement in 1989, he and Joyce moved to Tucson/Marana, where he became active with Sons of the American Revolution, serving as both Tucson Chapter and Arizona State SAR President.
Al is preceded in death by his mother Leona, by his wife Joyce, and by his daughter Sharon. He is survived by his daughters Kathleen of Splendora, TX, and Elaine (Steve) of Willows, CA; sons John (Odi) of Huachuca City, and Paul of Laredo, TX; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Hudgel's Swan Funeral Home, 1335 S Swan Rd, Tucson, AZ 85711. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 3015 N Oracle Road, Tucson, AZ 85712
