Albert V Martinez's Obituary
Albert “Beto” Martinez
Beto was born August 17, 1939 in Tucson, AZ. Growing up in Tucson, Beto’s love for the
Arizona Wildcats was passed down by his father and instilled that same love with his own family.
The fondest memories of growing up was spending time with his brothers, and playing baseball.
He always told stories of his time playing at Cherry Field and for Tucson High where he lettered
in baseball in 1959.
He began to work immediately after graduating high school and became a Heavy Equipment
Operator for the City of Tucson where he retired in 1997. Through a friend, Carmen Cardenas
(who later became his sister-in-law), he met his wife of 39 years, Linda Martinez in 1975. They
married in 1976 and he was a devoted husband for 39 happy years. He was with Linda as she
lost her battle with stomach cancer in 2016.
Beto had 4 children Monique, Veronica, Lynn, and Albert Jr. Beto had so much pride in sharing
special moments with each of his children attending softball games, baseball games, and
volunteering as a band parent for Desert View High School or volunteering to keep score for
softball/baseball games. As hard as he worked, he made sure that he spent time having dinner
with his family each night and being present at any and all activities they were involved in.
As the years went on and he became a grandfather, nothing made him prouder than to have his
legacy carry on. He beamed with pride as he watched his children grow up, become parents
and watch his 5 grandchildren grow.
Beto was a man of few words but had a strong presence known by all. He will be missed dearly.
Albert “Beto” Martinez passed away on April 26, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife of
