Alexandra S. Bloom's Obituary
Alexandra (Sandy) Bloom was born August 18th, 1927 and was the only child of Samuel and Bird Schiff . She was born in Chicago, Illinoise but spent most of her childhood in Baltimore, Maryland. After graduating Northwestern University with a Bachelor Degree in Education, she began teaching Elementary School in Long Beach, California. While living in Long Beach, Sandy was set up on a blind date with Theodore (Teddy) Bloom and it was love at first sight. They had a whirlwind romance and 3 months later Sandy moved to Tucson, Arizona to marry Ted on November 27th 1952 at the Temple Emanu-El. Ted and Sandy Bloom were one of the first couples to ever marry in the temple. The couple honeymooned in Acapulco and a year later their daughter, Terry (Bloom) Concannon was born in December 1953, followed by Edward David Bloom in June, 1955.
Bering married into a family of merchants, her mother-in-law, Clara Bloom emphasized buying locally and giving back to the community. Sandy took heed to her mother-in-laws advice and immersed herself in the Temple Emanu-El, volunteering and spearheading various women’s groups. Sandy was a natural leader and quickly found herself as the President to various Charities such as the Brandeis Book Drive, the Angel Charities, and the National Counsel of Jewish Women. In addition to helping with local charity events, Sandy would help organize National events as well.
Not only did Sandy devote her time to giving back to the Tucson community, she also embraced and supported Ted’s family business, Dave Bloom and Son’s. She would join him on trips and conventions to the National Board of Men’s Retail Association giving her love and encouragement to help the business grow.
Sandy and Ted enjoyed traveling the world together. They went on many trips including cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, Barbados, Australia, and Europe to name a few. On their travels they made many lifelong friends and companions. On every excursion Sandy and Ted took they always picked up a “Teddy” Bear to commemorate their time. Of the many friends Sandy and Ted made throughout their lives, no one could deny the great love they had for one another.
Sandy supported and loved Ted until his last breath in March, 2014 due to Alzheimer’s. Sadly, after Ted’s death Sandy’s own health began to deteriorate. She continued enjoy family celebrations such as Hanukkah and Passover with her children and grandchildren until her own passing on June 13th, 2016. Proceeded only one week prior by her beloved dog Tipper, aka Mr. T.
Sandy is survived by the following children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Terry Concannon, Edward Bloom, Trese Moylan, Kevin Concannon, Jr., Colleen Foose, Maura Concannon, Patrick Concannon, Zachary Bloom, Kai Concannon, Keoni Concannon, Kasen Concannon, Saoirse Moylan, Dietrich Foose, and soon to be born Savinah Concannon.
