Alice Louise Garber's Obituary
Alice Louise Garber passed away peacefully in her home on May 27, 2023 at the age of 92. Alice was the epitome of strength, resilience, determination, and grace. She was an inspiration to her family and friends and to the many children she taught during her 30-year career at Corbett Elementary School in Tucson, AZ.
Alice was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. After moving to Tucson, she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education at the UofA. She was strict in the classroom but very well-loved by her students, many of whom proclaimed her their “best teacher ever” even many years after leaving her classroom when they ran into each other around town. She helped them learn academically and also how to navigate the often-challenging circumstances of life.
Alice was a loving, steadfast, and accepting support for her daughters Linda, Susan, Kathy and Nancy, son Bill, and her grandson Hayden. She quietly led by example and proved that even women of the Silent Generation could have it all -- family, education, career, wonderful friends, and life adventures.
Predeceased by her husband, David A. Garber, Alice is survived by her children and grandson, as well as her brother Michael (Phoebe), nieces Betsy (Richard), Stephanie, Jennifer (Jeffrey), and Eve and nephews Michael (Shari), Cole, and Henry.
Please consider a donation to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona in the memory of the many beloved rescue dogs Alice brought into her home.
Special thanks for the loving care -- and laughs -- caregiver Jackie gifted to Alice in her final months.
