Alvin (Al) Lightman's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Alvin (Al) Lightman
August 7, 2025 | Age 103
WWII Veteran • Devoted Husband, Father & Grandfather • Lifelong Family Man
With full hearts, we remember the life of Alvin “Al” Lightman, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of August 7, 2025, at the remarkable age of 103.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Al lived a long and meaningful life defined by service, devotion, and quiet strength. During World War II, he proudly served his country as a pilot instructor in the U.S. Air Force, helping to shape and support the next generation of aviators.
Al spent more than 60 years married to the love of his life, Jo Lightman. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and deep family connection. After raising their children, Steve and Lori, in New York, Al and Jo moved to Tucson, Arizona to be closer to their grandchildren—a reflection of Al’s unwavering commitment to family.
He is lovingly remembered by his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Megan Lightman, whose care and dedication meant the world to him. He is also survived by his daughter, Lori Lightman, and his three grandchildren—Nicole, Lindsay, and Jason and Nicole’s husband, Scott Kirchner—who were a constant source of pride and joy.
Al approached life with warmth, humility, and a deep appreciation for the people around him. He found joy in the simple things—long walks, a good round of golf, a quiet poker game with friends, and time with family—and lived each day with quiet purpose and integrity. His presence brought comfort, and his love was a steady force in the lives of those who knew him.
Though he has left this world, Al's legacy lives on in the values he passed down, the stories he shared, and the deep love he gave so generously.
A memorial service will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery Chapel to honor his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to a veterans’ organization or a charity close to your heart.
