Amelia Grace Forde's Obituary
With love and fond memories, we celebrate the life of Amelia Grace Forde, beloved mother, grandmother, friend and widow, who passed away on April 1, 2025 at the age of 79. Born near Newell, South Dakota, and raised on a farm, Amelia (commonly known as Midge) eventually met her husband, Jerry Mack Forde in high school, was soon thereafter married, and started a family.
Amelia lived a simple life, taking care of her family, but also held various odd jobs including welding, managing a department store, working in a laundromat, and preparing food for a nursing home, hospital, jail, and schools. She adored her family and cherished every moment spent with them, creating many traditions and memories. Whether gathered around the table for a home-cooked meal or playing a friendly game of cards (which she usually won!), her warmth filled the room. She was an excellent listener and gave opinions and advice when she felt warranted. Amelia was a devout follower of Jesus. She read her Bible every morning, attended church regularly, and shared in her knowledge of the Lord.
Amelia’s kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her son Timothy Forde and his wife Susan; son Daniel Forde and his wife Kimberly; grandsons Carson Forde and Cameron Forde; daughter Collette Root and her husband Richard; granddaughter Katrina Baldwin and her husband James; granddaughter Courtney Root and her spouse Lynn; daughter Felicia Slaton and her husband Chad; and granddaughter Lacie Forde. Amelia was also survived by her sisters Ellen Koan, Lottie Lindall, and Bonnie Lewis-Noble; and her brothers Ben Lewis, Bill Lewis, Ed Lewis, and Adam Lewis.
Amelia’s love and laughter will live on in the stories we share and the traditions she passed down. Though she is no longer with us, she will never be forgotten.
