Betty Lyon Berkowitz's Obituary
Betty Lyon Berkowitz, 87, passed away on May 9, 2017, surrounded by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Sam Lyon, her loving husband, Nachman Berkowitz and her brother-in-law, Dr. Lawrence Friedman.
Betty is survived by her sisters, Shirley (Jerry) Leader, Lois (Nat) Harris, and Linda Friedman; her children, Barry, Steve and Michael Gross and Lisa (Walter) Boyce; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was born on July 3, 1929 in Nashville, Tennessee. She was the President of her synagogue’s sisterhood while in Birmingham, Alabama. Upon moving to Tucson, Betty became a dedicated gift shop volunteer at Congregation Anshei Israel as well as, President of Women’s League, Chairwoman of Torah Fund and she received the Woman of Valor Award.
Betty cherished her family and friends, playing mah jong, dancing, reading, cooking and party planning. The family is appreciative of the love and care Betty received from Victorine Tangim and her staff. Betty will be missed by all whose life she touched.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at 4:00 p.m. in the Anshei Israel Section of Evergreen Cemetery, 3015 N. Oracle Road.
