BETTY L. PETERS OBITUARY
Betty Lee (Grieb) Peters, age 90, passed away June 3, 2022, in Tucson, AZ. She will be interred at the gravesite of James Keith Peters in Evergreen Mortuary and Cemetery in Tucson, AZ. A short service will be held at the gravesite at 10:00 a.m. on June 15, 2022.
She was born March 7, 1932 to Stanley E. Grieb and Gladys G. (Smith) Grieb in Sidney, Champaign County, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Everett Grieb, her loving husband James K. Peters and two children Cynthia Jo McKeethen-Meeks and James Ray McKeethen II.
Surviving are children Debra Lee (McKeethen) Schnoeker of Vista, CA; Debra Ann (Brad) Lousberg of Oceanside, CA; Beverly (Tom) Bain of Tucson, AZ and Susan (Tony) Riddle of Tucson, AZ. Also surviving are one brother Dean (Millie) Grieb of Marana, AZ and sister Patricia Ann Grieb of Cochise County, AZ. She also has three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Betty’s early years were spent in Illinois until the family moved to Detroit, Michigan, while she was still in elementary school. After her first marriage she and her first husband moved to Tucson, AZ. She had three children from her first marriage, Debra Lee, Cynthia Jo and James Ray.
After her divorce from her first husband and after her children were grown, she met and married James Keith Peters on March 30, 1984, in Las Vegas, Nevada and through that marriage was gifted with three daughters from Jim’s first marriage, Debra Ann, Beverly and Susan.
Betty was a member of Catalina United Methodist Church in Tucson. During her church life she lined up volunteers for the communion services, served as greeter and sometimes hosted the coffee booth. She attended the early morning church services and christian education classes.
Betty was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and enjoyed the friendship and many activities and gatherings with her sorority sisters.
Betty was active outside her home until the lost of most of her sight in April, 2021 due to macular degeneration. She still remained active in her own home and with the help of family and friends still shopped and participated in various activities.
She was loved and will be sorely missed.
