I had the honor and distinct privilege of working with Billy Joe for a number of years. Beginning at the ACS Project in Menlo Park in the late 60's continuing through the the early 90's, a span of 25 years, we collaborated on numerous projects. BJ was the best engineering manager I ever worked with and for. He had a leadership style that won the support and loyalty of his team. For me it was an honor and a joy to work long hours and travel anywhere on a moments notice whenever Billy asked. Those were the days!
My life is better as a result of having known and worked with BJ. I am grateful that I had him as a colleague and deeply saddened by his passing.
I had lost touch with BJ over the last several years. Strangely, tonight as I relaxed after dinner the idea popped into my head that I should check on him. I immediately googled and, to my regret, found his very recently posted obituary. Maybe it's a coincidence -- I doubt it.
BJ you were a wonderful, sometimes larger than life character. Wherever you are I know you're smiling and asking, "How's it going for a Monday?"
