Bobbie Berger Hanft's Obituary
Bobbie Berger Hanft, 77 years old, passed away peacefully at Hospice on Thursday, July 21, 2011. Born in Lordsburg, New Mexico, she attended private school in Nashville, and moved to Tucson to attend the U of A. She was a special education teacher in New York and Tucson. She spent most of her life in Tucson as a mother, teacher, real estate broker, and community activist. She was the proud mother of Amanda (Berger) Saxe and Deborah (Berger) Lehr and loved one, Melinda Brown. She was also grandmother to six grandchildren: Connor, Jami, and Anna Lehr, and Stephanie, Justin and Abby Saxe. She was a beautiful woman with a big heart. She touched the lives of many people. She loved her family and friends. She enjoyed ranch style living, horseback riding, traveling, visiting museums, southwestern art, volunteering, and keeping score at U of A Basketball games. She was a Tucson patriot and activist in the community with organizations such as Casa de los Ninos and Angel Charity. Bobbie served as Past President of the Tucson Museum of Art. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cordelia and Alvin Parker, her brother, Augie Parker, and her second husband, Phillip Hanft. She is survived by her first husband, Edward Berger, all of her children and grandchildren, and her cousin, John Augustine. A service honoring Bobbie will be held Sunday, July 24th at 10:00 A.M., EVERGREEN MORTUARY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile. Interment to follow in the Temple Emanu-El Section of Evergreen Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held at Skyline Country Club at 12:00 P.M. The family kindly requests that donations be made to Tucson Museum of Art.
