Bruce Alton Caruthers' Obituary
A resident of Hereford, he was born in Fruita, Colorado on June 3, 1939 and died May 14, 2013 in Tucson. Survived by wife JoAnn Caruthers of Hereford; daughter Kerry Rae Caruthers of Sierra Vista; grandchildren Miranda Mae Hammonds and Henry Bruce Hammonds; sister Eleanor Wilson of Tucson; brothers Larry and Tom Caruthers, both of Tucson, and Terry Caruthers of Denver, CO. Preceded in death by his daughter Kimberly Ann Caruthers; sister Carolyn Clark and brother William Caruthers. Bruce grew up in the Rocky Mountains in a small town, Redcliff. In his youth he loved to hunt, fish and reveled in mountain life. He also loved the Sonoran Desert and the excitement and smell of the summer thunderstorms. A Vietnam era veteran, he served four years in the US Air Force, working on jet engines as a mechanic with the MATS at Travis AFB in CA. After his discharge and brief work at the mines south of Tucson, he joined the Air National Guard, 162nd Fighter Wing in Tucson and retired in 1995 after a total of 30 years military service. He admired everything about the Colorado Narrow Gauge Railroad and built model engines. Most of all he loved his family and will be deeply missed. Memorial Service will be held Monday, May 20, 2013, 11:00 AM at EVERGREEN MORTUARY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile, with military honors by DMAFB Honor Guard.
