Dr. Charles Austin Davis' Obituary
Dr. Charles Austin Davis, 78, passed away peacefully at his home on May 12, 2025.
Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on August 7, 1946, Charlie was the second of five children born to Armenta and George Davis. A lifelong learner, Charlie graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1968 and earned his dental degree from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1972. After a year of service in Appalachia, he completed his Pediatric Dental residency at the University of Tennessee in 1975.
That same year, Charlie moved to Tucson, Arizona, where he began what would become a remarkable 45-year career devoted to caring for underserved children across Southern Arizona. He joined his brother, Dr. William “WW” Davis, in dental practice and met the love of his life, Carol Wood Davis, in the dental chair while filling in at his brother’s office. Charlie and Carol built a life full of warmth, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family.
Together, they raised three sons—Charles, Jr., Tyler, and Adam—and filled their home with encouragement, humor, and unconditional love. Charlie took immense pride in his sons, cheering them on through every swim meet, basketball game, and milestone, and was especially proud that each followed in his professional footsteps.
Following Carol’s passing, Charlie stepped into the role of both parents with grace, strength, and deep compassion. In 2008, he met Cindy Montgomery, and together they shared a passion for travel, food, and family. Their adventures took them around the world—from the Great Wall of China, through the pyramids of Egypt, and the African Serengeti—but their favorite places were always those where they could gather with their grandchildren or relax along the coast in Encinitas, California.
Charlie was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol, his parents, Armenta and George Davis, his brother William Watson Davis, his brother-in-law, Jerry Hall, niece, Heather Davis, and nephew, Mitchell Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Montgomery, and his sons Charles, Jr., Tyler (Daughter-in-Law, Kimmie), and Adam (Daughter-in-law, Emily); eleven grandchildren: Carolyn, Baxley, Greer, Charlotte, TJ, Maysie, Ella, Watson, McKinney, Charlie, and Mary Carol. He is also survived by Cindy’s children: Michael, Kelly (Ryan Puckett), and Katie (Josh Stewart), grandson, Carson.
Charlie’s legacy continues through his siblings Stefan Davis (Ronni), Caroline Davis Davis (Pat), and Patricia Hall as well as a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
Known for his deep intellect, magnetic warmth, and unshakable optimism, Charlie made everyone he met feel valued and seen. He lived fully, gave generously, and leaves behind a legacy of compassion, service, and boundless love.
A memorial service will be held June 5th at 1 PM in Tucson at St Andrews Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider making a donation in Charlie’s memory to the Moonchild Foundation’s Dr. Charles A Davis Memorial Fund.
