From another dear dear friend and family Kevin Clower.
The power of ritual
The coming together to mourn
The coming together to celebrate
The lighting of the candles for Shabbat
Touching the bread or challah
Saying the words
Being amongst family
It’s a really beautiful thing to feel welcome and wanted and needed and loved
From one generation to another to another
To hear the stories and see the tears and see the smiles
I have known the Keefe clan for 35 or so years going back to the high school days.
There is something about going through adolescence together that is a singularly unique time in ones life
You are raw and really just trying to figure out where you belong
Through D&D sessions in the front room or Pizza parties or playing frisbee on Wilshire - it just felt right and comfortable and there was no BS
Mrs Keefe and the Keefe Clan always made we feel welcome
and wanted
and needed
and loved
And - I felt like I belonged
Not necessarily in this warm embrace sort of way
but more like a smack on the head or the way you run a dogs ears roughly so you know they can feel
Mrs Keefe always had a twinkle in her eye, a wry smile on her face and a wise guy comment that kept you on your toes. She also made me feel welcome, wanted, needed and loved
and I felt like I belonged
And I get that sense of belonging here today. It feels right to be here with her and for her and for each other. Telling stories and cracking jokes and no BS
So Thank You Mrs Keefe and the Keefe Clan for making people feel welcome, wanted, needed and loved and creating a sense of Belonging.
