Diane Kathryn Pierson Monnier's Obituary
Diane Kathryn Pierson Monnier 70, summertime resident of Roger's City, Michigan and wintertime resident of Tucson, AZ, passed on to heaven suddenly in Tucson, AZ on November 3, 2014. She experienced a dissected aorta and thankfully did not suffer in her final hours on this earth. Diane was born January 1944 in Detroit, Michigan to Colin and Georgina Pierson (Rowe). Diane grew up in the East side of Detroit and attended Cass Tech High School. She recently planned and celebrated her 50th reunion in Detroit with many Cass Tech alumni. We are confident that she is rejoined with her late husband, retired Major Lawrence Payne Monnier deceased 2000. The two were married September 1965 in Michigan. Diane earned a Bachelors degree from the University of Michigan in Journalism. She was an active member of Alpha Gama Delta sorority. She earned a Masters degree of Library Science from the University of Oklahoma. The greater part of her career was as a Children's Librarian for the Montgomery County Public Library in Maryland and was an active member of the American Library Association. Diane received many awards throughout her years of public service to her church, sorority, Library system and community, a fun most recent award was on a more personal level, she was honored with the "patient of the month" award in June by her orthopedic surgeon who successfully replaced her hip in February. Diane, along with Larry lived in many parts of the country throughout their married life. Settling in the metro DC area upon Larry's retirement from the Air Force. Diane was an avid traveler; just returning home from a trip to Croatia on October 1st; and planned trips for the Galapagos, China and Burma on the calendar for 2015. She was an enthusiastic volunteer at the Tucson Assistance League as well as Christ Church United Methodist. Diane is survived by her three children, Becky Bosch (Tony), Lori Kinney (Fred) and Pete Monnier (Melissa); grandchildren, Gus, Lucy and Benjamin Bosch, Lily Monnier and Kate and Gigi Kinney; in-laws, Jim and Diane Monnier and Carl and Diane Monnier: aunt, Margurite Harms; many cousins and nieces and nephews. She is predeceased in death by her loving husband, Larry; her mother, Georgina and father, Colin (Bud); uncle, George Harms and grandparents, Kathryn and Walter Harms. Through work, travel, volunteerism, community service and a love of people, Diane is also survived by more friends than can be counted. She had a magnet on her refrigerator that states "To Travel is to Live!" and a newspaper clipping above her desk that read "What matters is not wealth, status, power or fame, but how well we have loved." Diane truly was a "professional" story-teller. Her stories and enthusiasm for life will be missed by family and friends alike. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Christ Church United Methodist, 655 N. Craycroft Road, Tucson, AZ.
