Donald Frederick Hill, Sr.'s Obituary
Don passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, in Mesa, AZ, at the age of 77. He is survived by his son, Donald Frederick Hill II, and granddaughters, Devon and Kameryn Hill. He is also survived by his brothers, Herb and Milton Hill, in Arkansas and his sister, Carol Doty, in Indiana. He is predeceased by his daughter, Erika Lorraine Hill. Don was born in Buffalo, NY, on June 27, 1936. He graduated from Crown Point Indiana High School in 1955. He was a member of the US Army reserves from 1955 1963. In 1966, Don was married to the former Judi Stiner. Two children came along, Don II and Erika. Always having an interest in law enforcement, he was with the Lake County Indiana Boat Patrol Division at the age of 18. He then joined the Tucson Police Department and enjoyed walking a beat until 1964 when he transferred to the patrol division. While with TPD he also became the lead homicide investigator. Don truly loved law enforcement. In 1966, he became an officer with the Arizona Highway Patrol with duty stations in Seligman and Tuba City, AZ. In Tuba City he was involved in a serious accident while on duty. No longer able to resume his patrol duties because of his injuries, he eventually became involved with Special and Criminal Investigations and Internal Affairs. Upon his retirement from DPS in 1973 he began his own business, Az-Cal Polygraph, which he owned and operated for 36 years. Don also performed private investigations during those years. Don was an avid sportsman throughout his life -hunting, camping, boating and golfing were his primary enjoyments. He also loved spending time with his family, playing darts, and enjoyed cooking a nice steak on the grill. Don had a big heart and deeply cared about those in need. Don accepted Christ in 1982 and his life was changed. He became fully involved In the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship, prison ministries and his church. He grew to know the Word extremely well and always knew the right words to say to a person in need. Don truly enjoyed his ministry and was a true soldier for the Lord. Thank you Don for your service, commitment to this community and to Jesus Christ. Don will be truly missed here on earth, but we know he is finally with the Lord in Heaven, which was his ultimate desire. Visitation will be held at Evergreen Mortuary Chapel, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Services will follow at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in Don's name to Gospel Rescue Mission Tucson http://grmtucson.com for their neighbor outreach program.
