Dorothy DeSoto's Obituary
Dorothy passed away in her home surrounded by many loving family members on May 30, 2025. She was born in her grandmother's home in Tucson, AZ on April 1, 1938.
Dorothy loved her family and many friends. She enjoyed going to parties, sports events, dancing, family gatherings, casinos, bingo, lottery tickets, travel and TV game shows. She collected frogs and Wizard of Oz memorabilia. In her teens, she modeled for Levy's.
Prior to her marriage, she worked in downtown Tucson at the Toy Store on Stone and a finance company. Later in life, she worked at KTUC Radio as a receptionist and traffic manager. She also worked on election boards for numerous elections. With her family she became an avid bowler at Golden Pin Lanes. She volunteered with the Amphitheater schools and Amphi High School Sports Booster Club where her sons attended school.
She also volunteered her time on the reunions of Safford Jr. High Class of 1953 and of Tucson Senior High School Class of 1956 from where she graduated.
Dorothy enjoyed parties, brunches, Facebook, caring for her home and plants, and keeping in touch with family and friends. She was the "go to" person for dates, occurrences and family history. She loved to dance and taught her siblings how, specializing in the jitterbug. Her favorite singers were Frank Sinatra and Johnny Mathis. Nicholas Cage was her favorite actor. She listened and danced to Country and Mexican music right along with pop, jazz, blues and the oldies.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Julia Lopez, grandson Ryder E. DeSoto, daughter-in-law Peggy DeSoto, and brother-in-law, Sonny Miles. She is survived by her sons: Andy DeSoto (Kelli) of Las Vegas, NV and Gary Desoto (Chris), along with 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Siblings: Sylvia Jo Miles; Frank Lopez (Kathy); Michael G. Lopez (Josette); Dale Lopez (Jessie); Mike Davis and generations of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sincere gratitude to her many relatives and friends from childhood, neighbors and Bingo companions who shared time with Dorothy with visits, flowers, food and goodies throughout her illness. Thank you to all those who helped with transportation and assistance to appointments, groceries and shopping during her battle with cancer. Appreciation to the kind persons at NW Hospital, Arizona Oncology and Casa de la Luz, who assisted in her homecare. To all who expressed kindness toward Dorothy throughout her life and cancer struggle, thank you.
