Edward Frank Austin's Obituary
Ed Austin led an interesting life. Born in Idaho, his family moved to California where he attended college. He was drafted into the Army Air Corp during World War II and served in India. Returning to the US, he joined the US Government as an FBI agent. One of his notable assignments was a protection detail to Orville Wright. He also served at the White House during the 60’s where he met then Attorney General, Robert Kennedy. He built his retirement home on the beach in Hawaii when Hawaii was still a territory. After the death of his wife Mary, he moved to Medford, Oregon.
While on a South American cruise, he met Margaret Hinterberg and they married in 2006. They moved to Margaret’s home in Florida, and later moved to Tucson to be close to Margaret’s children. Having no children of his own, he quickly embraced Margaret’s children and grandchildren, and they all loved him. In their new Tucson home Ed had a new inspiration. He was a gifted artist and he began painting the Catalina Mountains, a view that he enjoyed daily from his window.
Ed will be missed by his loving wife Margaret, and by Margaret’s children and grandchildren. His nieces and nephew will also miss their uncle. This wonderful gentleman will be missed by the staff and residents at the Fairwinds.
The family would like to thank the staff at Aria Hospice for the kindness and caring that they showed to Ed. The staff at the Fairwinds were wonderful to Ed and Margaret as they assisted Hospice. The family appreciates all the care and work that they did to make Ed as comfortable as possible.
