Elaine Joseph's Obituary
Elaine Joseph, 85, died in Tucson on December 2, 2016. Born in 1931 to Harry and Ida Isaacs, she grew up on the north side of Chicago, graduated from Roosevelt High School and Northwestern University, Phi Beta Kappa . She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Edwin Joseph, her children, Karen (Michael), Gail, and Mark (Patty). She was much loved by her grandchildren, Sara, Allison (Ignacio), Andrew (Kate), Emily, Danny, Adam, and great-grandchildren, Arlo and Mila. She treasured her brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Judy Isaacs, nieces Maria (Neil z’l) and Jenny, great nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. Elaine was passionate about education and teaching, a tireless advocate for progressive causes and steadfast supporter for diversity and success in her community. A private service has been held at Sha’arei Shalom Cemetery in Tucson, with plans forthcoming for a future gathering of family and friends in the Chicago area. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, Planned Parenthood, or the Lincoln Park Zoo would please Elaine and her family.
