Emeline J. Helten's Obituary
Emeline J. Helten, 98 years old, of Tucson passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016. Preceded in death by her sisters Dorothy and Edna, she is survived by her beloved children Karen Saltzman of Oro Valley, Randi Guthrie of Marana and Richard (Bonnie) Helten of Congress AZ. Cherished grandmother of Lewis (Tisha) Saltzman, Keith Saltzman, Janet Howard and Krissi Wood; great-grandmother of Katie (Ryan) Ramos, Kyle Saltzman, Kristi Howard and Whitney Wood; great great grandmother of Dylan Saltzman, Gavin Ramos and Genna Ramos. Mrs. Helten was a gifted piano player and seamstress. She was an avid swimmer and as a young girl was a lifeguard. She was a volunteer at various nursing homes and was always happy to oblige entertaining the residents by playing the piano. For many years Mrs. Helten enjoyed camping with her dogs. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Emeline was a wonderful cook and always baked an angel food cake for family member’s birthdays. Emeline touched the hearts of many and will be missed by all and will be remembered as a strong willed woman and a proud Norwegian. She was named after two women who organized the woman’s Suffrage movement in 1903 called the Women’s Social and Political Union. Their names were Emeline Pankhurst and Janet Rankin. Their crusade ended in 1918 with the passage of the Women’s Suffrage.
Memorial services will be held at the Fidelity Care Home, 8131 N Boreal, Tucson, AZ 85704 at 3:00pm on February 23, 2016. Reception will follow the service.
