I've been visiting/shopping at Wild Birds Unlimited for many years. Eric has always been very kind and generous with his time and knowledge. I went into the shop today to purchase another hummingbird feeder and to ask Eric about some bird feed only to see two new faces. I thought maybe Eric decided to sell the shop and these were the new owners. They told me about Eric's heart attack and subsequent passing in April. Although I'm not family, I was immediately in tears as I felt as if I lost a dear friend. My heart goes out to his wife and family. Eric is loved and missed. I hope he is flying with his feathered friends and watching over those he loved.

I met Eric many ago when I moved to Oro Valley. I visited his Wild Birds Unlimited shop frequently, and he was always patient and kind with all my questions. He was very helpful guiding the purchase of my first good pair of binoculars, and excited to hear about my sightings! I will so miss seeing him whenever I shop there now. Linda and Dave Cheyfitz. What a lovely person, he will so be missed. I enjoyed kibbitzing with him while we came in to stock up on our feather friends. His kindness, his attention to detail, to just being him - will be forever missed. I was so truly shocked to hear of his passing - may his memory be a blessing to all. Rest in peace, Eric. You are flying with your feather friends now.

We have been going to Wild Bird Unlimited for a very long time and always looked forward to seeing Eric. We talked politics, family, health, theatre, and, of course, birds. He was a joy to be with and I will miss him tremendously.

My husband went to Wild Birds just a couple of weeks ago for birdseed and had his usual wonderful conversation with Eric. I told him not to get peanuts as I wanted to go myself so I could see Eric before we left for the summer. So today, I went to the store and was told about Eric's heart attack. The tears came immediately as I consider it the loss of a good friend. His voice and laugh will stay with me for a long time.

Our thoughts are with Sara and his family. He was an amazing human being.

Words cannot express how much I am going to miss Eric! I loved going into the store and we would chat about everything - I especially liked talking politics with him. Eric was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with Sara and his family as they navigate this terrible loss.

Eric had a knack for befriending all his customers. He asked sincere questions of them—of me— that weren’t just lip service, they were genuine attempts to know you not just as a customer but as a person. If the store was busy, I could be in and out in 5 minutes, getting an errand done. But iall the other times, when it was just me, that the errand piece was secondary and it was like catching up with an old friend over coffee. Laughing, griping, telling bird stories (Sara, I heard about the quail that landed on your head one evening), and travel stories. He knew when I was leaving on a trip because I’d be stocking up on seed columns to carry my bird friends through for a few weeks “Where are you going NOW?” lol always spoken with sincere interest and curiosity and just a smidge of jealousy. That man worked HARD!!

I miss Eric already and will forever link him with my love of birds. He was my bird guru, and my friend. Rest easy Eric. See you on the other side someday 💕

I could sit and chat with Eric for hours on end. I loved the stories of how he got interested (and passionate) for birds and his childhood memories of learning about and caring for birds. And he didn't hesitate to share his unfiltered opinions and beliefs when it came to everything from vaccines to lazy politicians. He taught me so much about birds and I won't ever see a Gila Woodpecker and not think of him. He was one of the most passionate and sincere people I've ever known. He was a bright and warm old soul who I will never forget. RIP friend.
