Ethel Irene Hodges' Obituary
Irene Hodges, born in Fremont Nebraska passed away at 99 years of age in her beloved town of Tucson Arizona. Raised on a farm, Irene learned to play piano by ear to keep herself entertained between chores. Her musical talents playing piano and accordion delighted many as a volunteer at assisted living facilities earning her the Tucson Outstanding Citizen Award in 2000. She was a member at Tucson Baptist church where she played piano/organ as an extension of her faith.
Irene worked several decades at the University of Arizona's cafeteria where she brought daily smiles to many youth. Along with her love of music and young people she received great joy from being with family and friends. All will be saddened by her loss but her joyful influence will always be remembered. So, there will be no good byes, instead, we say Good Night Irene.
Irene is survived by her 4 children, Ruth Collins, Daniel Hodges, Betty Droubi and Clark Hodges. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
Irene lived independently until age 95, when she came under the excellent care of Robyn Sullivan at Tender Care Assisted Living.
A celebration of her life will be held 1 p.m. Friday, at Evergreen Mortuary Chapel, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile.
