Eugene Robert Nichol's Obituary
Eugene (Gene) Robert Nichol, 85, of Tucson, AZ, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 22, 2024, in the home he proudly designed and built, surrounded by loved ones. Gene was born on June 24, 1939, in Bisbee, AZ, to the late James and Vida Nichol.
A lifelong professional in the steel fabrication industry, Gene began his career as a blueprint delivery boy at Ramsey Steel in El Paso, TX. He quickly advanced, becoming a sales estimator for Stanley Structures in Tucson, AZ. Gene’s efficient work ethic and attention to detail led to his promotion as manager of their Tucson steel plant. His dedication and leadership eventually culminated in his promotion to Vice President at Kasper Hall Steel and 47 Steel, where he oversaw operations and contributed significantly to the company’s growth before his retirement. Even in retirement, Gene remained active in the industry, continuing his passion for steel fabrication alongside his brother, Carlton Nichol, in the Hawaiian steel industry until his final days.
Gene was a man of deep faith, dedicated to serving in the churches he attended throughout his life. Whether sitting on mission boards, serving as an usher during Sunday services, or working with the children’s Awana programs, Gene was committed to his community and always put God first.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Jean Nichol; his brother, Carlton Nichol of Oahu, HI; and his children, Richard Nichol of Queen Creek, AZ; Lorri Swink of Tucson, AZ; Jim Grantham of Arivaca, AZ; Carol Canada of Chicago, IL; Rick Grantham of Roseville, CA; and Cathy Ureno of El Paso, TX. He is also survived by his 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanell Nichol, his sister, Barbara Randall, and his granddaughter, Kristin Davis.
A celebration of Gene’s life will take place on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Casas Church, 10801 N La Cholla Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85742.
Gene lived a long and fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and determination. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
