Eunice Edith Kuhr's Obituary
Eunice Edith Kuhr passed away peacefully surrounded by love on December 2, 2024, at the age of 96.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Mary and Abraham Faust, Eunice lived a life filled with curiosity, compassion, and strength. A strong advocate of education, Eunice attended University of Cincinnati and was a graduate of Wright State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in physical education. She earned a Master’s degree in reading education from the University of Arizona. Pausing her education at the age of 19 to marry and raise three children, she returned to school in her 30s to complete her degrees. Throughout her career, she worked with less fortunate families to help parents teach their children reading and life skills
Married to her beloved husband, Bernie, for 71 years, she was predeceased by him as well as by her daughter Shelly Peskin, son Michael, and sister Anita Schvimer. Eunice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Kuhr, and his wife Aimee Bernstein, her grandchildren Josh Peskin and his wife Nina Peskin, Jenna Peskin and her husband Erik Uriarte, Elizabeth Kuhr and her wife Emily Bunting, Marshall Donner and his wife Molly Ostrow, and Jack Kuhr and his wife Rachel DiSalvo; as well as her great-granddaughter Maya Peskin.
Over the years, Eunice lived in various cities across the U.S., including Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio; Topeka, Kansas; Boston, Massachusetts; Tucson, Arizona; and Westport, Connecticut. Throughout each move she developed and maintained strong lifelong friendships.
She was very curious about the world around her including current events and Jewish culture. She had a special connection to the ocean, making annual trips from Tucson to San Diego to enjoy the sea. Physical fitness was an integral part of Eunice’s life and she served as a model for the importance of movement at every age. She was dedicated to daily exercise, including tennis, hiking, long walks and fitness classes which she attended up until a few weeks before her passing.
Throughout her life, Eunice faced loss with grace and optimism, never allowing hardship to define her. After the passing of her husband Bernie, she became a source of comfort and advice for others navigating grief. When confronted with a difficult event or period, she often reminded herself and those around her of important words from her husband, “You don’t have to like it. You just need to get through it.”
Eunice will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 10:00 AM MT at Evergreen Mortuary and Cemetery located at 3015 N. Oracle Road, Tucson, AZ. The service will also be available via Zoom (details are provided below). A Shiva will be held at the home of Jeff and Aimee Kuhr on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at 144 Roseville Road, Westport, CT 06880.
May her memory be a blessing.
