By way of an Old Tappan "friends" group on Facebook I became aware of Everett's passing a year ago. By coincidence I'm out here in Arizona (Phoenix area) as well for over a decade now.
My family had been in Old Tappan a few years before Bi-State Plaza was built and Everett appeared as one of the first tenants. He quickly gained my family's trust as simply a nice guy to be counted on, and as one who would go out of his way to help. My older brother worked for him for a while, delivering prescriptions on his bicycle, and from the Facebook posts it seems half the kids from the local high school worked for him at one time or another as well!
Although this isn't timely, please accept my sincere condolences on behalf of the Clark Smith family (I'm the only one left). We all knew, loved and trusted Everett as a friend and trusted advisor. Truly a fine example of the Greatest Generation who will be missed.
Fondly,
Gary Smith
