Gary Karl Maluf Ph. D.'s Obituary
Gary Karl Maluf, Ph. D., passed away of a heart attack on March 11, 2021, at the age of 73. Gary is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 34 years, Carole Diane Maluf, his mother Betty Paul Maluf-Tver, and his four children, Natalie Sabin (Daniel Sabin), Nasib Maluf (Daisy Sharrock), Alexis Cole (Jeremy Cole), and Nathan Bolt, and his sisters Linda Maluf (and her daughter Samantha Choi) and Louise Maloof. Gary was blessed with many grandchildren: Benjamin Meyer, Sean Maluf, Kyna Airriess, Ryan Maluf, Alex Danzer, Brinley Cole, Presley Cole, Myles Cole, Gage Bolt, Gavin Bolt, and Ashley Bolt. Gary was preceded in death by his grandson, Luke Sabin and his father Karl Nesbit Maluf.
Gary was an integral part of the Benson AZ community, serving the Benson Hospital for over 30 years as Director of Laboratory, Radiology, and Occupational Therapy. Gary obtained his early medical training in the United States Army and later earned a doctorate in Public Health from Virginia Commonwealth University. Gary served the community for over 25 years through volunteer activities as part of the Benson Rotary Club, as President, Historian, Program Manager, and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also an active member of the American Legion.
Gary was a voracious reader with a prodigious memory and was an unusually talented storyteller. Gary had a lifetime love of classical music and taught himself to play the piano and the classical guitar. All of Gary’s family sought out his advice and counsel for help through difficult times. Gary inspired courage when risk taking was the right move and will be remembered as a role model. Gary will be in our memories forever.
