Gerard Xavier Horbert's Obituary
Gerard “Jerry” Xavier Horbert, 73, of Gilbert, Arizona, passed away peacefully at home on January 2, 2026.
Born on October 26, 1952, in Camden, New Jersey, Jerry was the son of Francis Edward Horbert and Irene Shea Dalton. He was raised in Natick and Franklin, Massachusetts, where he attended local schools.
Drafted in July 1972, during the final year of the U.S. military draft, he served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era.
Following his military service, he pursued his education, attending Dean Junior College, where he majored in mathematics, and later Northeastern University in Boston, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Upon graduating, he sought out a career in the software industry, working for Dun and Bradstreet, McKesson, and Medecision.
A deep Christian faith also defined his life. Throughout the years, Jerry served as elder, deacon, and treasurer in several churches.
In his sparetime, Jerry could often be found outdoors with a camera in hand. He had a remarkable eye for capturing beauty in both nature and everyday life. An avid cyclist, he also enjoyed the challenge of the El Tour de Tucson bike race, which he participated in for several years.
Of all his roles, however, none was more important than that of "Granddad." He cherished every moment spent with his family, sharing his laughter, his sense of adventure, and his zest for life with his grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Theresa.
His sons: Christopher (Danielle) and Timothy (Anastasia)
His eleven grandchildren: Alyssa, Nicholas, Rebekah, Abigail, Ryan, Ruth, Caleb, Hannah,
Nathanael, Lydia, and Noelle.
His siblings: Kathleen Keenan, Frank (Doreen) Horbert, and Christine (Nelson) Sheppard, as
well as several nieces.
A short service of approximately 20 minutes will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Marana, AZ on Friday, April 3, at 10 am for those who wish to pay their respects.
Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the deacon’s fund at Holy Cross Church, 7730 N. Cortaro Rd, Suite 105, Tucson, AZ, 85743 in Jerry’s memory.
