Gilbert H. Sokal D.D.S's Obituary
Gilbert H Sokal passed away peacefully Feb 25, 2025. He was born in Brooklyn, New York Nov. 11, 1944 and grew up in Brooklyn and Queens. He graduated with a BS degree in chemistry from Queens College in 1967 and graduated from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in 1970 earning a DDS.
He was always hard working and put himself through dental school.
He enlisted in the army after graduating from dental school and served two years in Fort Campbell Kentucky as a Captain in the US Army Dental Corp as a dentist until 1972 and was granted an honorable discharge. He moved to Tucson and begin his dental career as a general dentist opening first a Tucson practice then a dental practice in Green Valley, being one of the first dentists there and having an illustrious career and practice for close to 50 years in Green Valley.
He retired and sold his practice in 2016 due to health problems.
Gil had a fighting spirit and was always upbeat despite his declining health and fought to the very end.
He was passionate about his family, dentistry , going to the gym every day and was proud that he won body building contests, water and snow skiing ,his large repertoire of jokes which he loved to tell everyone, traveling to Europe , South America , Mexico and throughout the United States , and his animals.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife , Karen Lazarow and her son Jason Lazarow, sons Rod Sokal and Dr. Brad Sokal, sister Renita Rosenberg , brother in laws Rabbi Jay Waitzman and Steven Waitzman and many good friends.
Gil was a member of the American Dental Association, Arizona Dental Association, the Southern Arizona Dental Association, and numerous dental study groups,
He was a very clever, kind and generous man and had a special wit and sense of humor. He will be greatly missed,
