Goldie Don Huie's Obituary
Goldie Don Huie, 93, a Tucson native, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away on September 29, 2017.
Goldie was the daughter of Mo Yin Chan and Don Shack Toy. She grew up in downtown Tucson, then a barrio, where her family ran a market. She attended Davis Elementary, Roskruge Middle, Tucson High, UC Berkeley and graduated with a B.S. in botany from The University of Arizona. During this time, she met her future husband, Ben Ying Huie, an aspiring architect, and together they raised five children. Goldie earned her teaching credential and embarked on a career as a longtime elementary school teacher with Flowing Wells School District.
We will remember Goldie as a kind, generous and selfless person with a “heart of gold.” She loved being with family and friends, traveling, reading, and had a passion for horses. She particularly enjoyed spending time with her ten grandchildren. Her beautiful smile and gentle spirit will be missed by all.
Goldie was proceeded in death by daughter Lauren Lily and devoted husband Ben Ying Huie. She is also survived by her children Sharon (Stephen), Douglas (Debbie), Patricia (Sam), Audrey (Alberto), Carolyn (Richard) and grandchildren Darren (Amy), Stephanie (Jeff), Kelsey, Elizabeth, Lauren, Daniel, Matthew, Ryley, Lily and Elena.
A celebration of Goldie’s life is planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tucson Chinese Cultural Center or TMC Foundation – Peppi’s House - Hospice.
Mom, Grandma, Popo, Golden Gram, Mama Bear, we love you. Forever in our hearts.
