Gregory Leigh Nichols' Obituary
Gregory Leigh Nichols, 69, of Freeport Tx passed away on Aug 21, 2018 in Tucson, Az. Greg was born Oct 20, 1948 in Austin, Mn to Albert “Nick” Nichols and VeNila Nichols. He was raised in Copperas Cove, Tx. Greg was preceded in death by his father in August 2000. He is survived by his wife Patricia Nichols of Tucson, Az. Daughter Michele Jones of Harker Heights, Tx. His mother of Freeport, Tx, brothers David of Freeport, Tx, Tony of Waco, Tx and Allen of Sierra Vista, Az, sisters Dorothy Nichols of Copperas Cove, Tx and Julia Nichols of Round Rock, Tx.
His stepdaughters Laura Ruiz, Tracey Weinhold, Denise Hargan, Jace Weinhold of Tucson Az., 8 granchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
He had numerous nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
Greg joined the Sea Bees in Feb 1969 and served in Viet Nam, he was honorably discharged in April 1971.
Greg was a paint contractor in Tx and Az for many years. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed taking his grandkids and nieces and nephews fishing and to the beach. He retired and moved on the coast of Tx to Freeport several years ago because of his love for the water. He loved being with his family, and friends and was well known for his humor and playing jokes. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Burial with full military honors will be at 1 p.m. at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery on Sep 21 and a Celebration of Life will be held Sep 22 at 2p.m. At the VFW at 1506 Veterans Ave, Copperas Cove, Tx. All family and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers the family requests tax deductible donations be made to the organization Texas Firewalkers, Non Profit organization that aids families displaced by fires or other disasters.
