Guadalupe was a shining light and affectionately known as “Honey” to many, with humble beginnings at her home on Stone Avenue close to downtown Tucson, Arizona. Because she was the youngest member of her family, she fought her 8 other brothers and sisters for food at the family table. Her father was a cobbler, and mother was the heart of the family. There was music in the house that could be heard all over the neighborhood. Singing, dancing, piano and guitar music penetrated the lives of the people on Stone Avenue; the common bond that held many families together during the 30’s and 40’s in Tucson Arizona.
Guadalupe graduated from Tucson High School in 1953, then embarked on a career in banking. She retired from the bank which became Wells Fargo in 1994. From there, she became a demonstrator and a volunteer at the VA hospital. She once stated some of the best memories she had were when she was demonstrating at the grocery stores because she liked the environment and the customers. Volunteering at the VA hospital brought her joy and blessings where she worked in the cafeteria and greeted visitors with a bag of popcorn.
Guadalupe was a singer- songwriter that played guitar and loved to entertain. She loved to perform in front of an audience. sometimes with a shot of whiskey to soften up her vocal cords. She had a deep appreciation for mariachi music and a few of her favorites were Jalisco, Solamente una Vez, Besame Mucho and Guadalajara! She loved being around her friends in her later years at the Armory Park and Quincie Douglas senior center where through her engaging personality, she displayed her talents and love for music.
Guadalupe was a warrior, protector, best friend, powerhouse, volunteer, brave, bombshell, advisor, giver, filled with laughter, generous, selfless, mischievous, guitarist, devoted, inspiring, clever, singer, dancer, tamale-maker, thunderous personality, direct, caregiver, protector, early influencer, activist, one of a kind, loving daughter, sister, aunt, wife, fantastic mother and shining star. She will be missed.
