Harold Don's Obituary
HAROLD DON
One man can influence the world. We know this to be true. Harold Don was such a man. Harold was born in Casa Grande; he passed away July 3, 2016. His family moved to Tucson and opened a grocery on Riverside Drive, in the Barrio Hollywood District neighborhood. He attended Menlo Park School, Roosevelt Junior High and Tucson High School. He was an Alumnus of the U of A and was a die hard Wildcat. He held season tickets for many years and never missed a home football game. While in high school Harold joined the Marine Corps Reserves. His company unit was activated in July, 1950 and he was sent to Korea with very little training. He was a member of Easy Company, 13th Infantry Battalion which was the first unit to be activated from Tucson. Harold was a charter member of the Tucson Detachment Marine Corps League. When he returned from Korea Harold married Jean E. Lim. They had two children, Denise and Frederick who both predeceased their father. He obtained his agricultural degree and was employed by the US Agricultural Department at the U of A Bee Research Lab. Mr. Don was a volunteer at the Tucson VA Hospital and was commended by President Reagan for having volunteering 10,018 hours. He volunteered at the Blind Rehab Center, the Tucson Devil Pups Youth Program for America since 1972, and the Chinese Cultural Center. Harold had a positive influence on many your men and women in our community. He was an active member of the Tucson Chapter of the Gold Prospector’s Association. He was an avid hunter and outdoors man. He loved attending gun shows and actively supported second amendment rights for everyone. Harold is survived by his companion, Rita Ramey, as sister, Stella (Ray) Lim, brothers, Richard (Ellen) and Lenny (Helen) Don, son-in-law, Terry Moffett and grand son, David Moffett. He was preceded by his sister, Josephine, father, Don Watt, mother, Mary Don, wife, Jean and his children. A Memorial Service will be held 9 a.m. September 17, 2016 at the Chinese Cultural Center, 1288 W. River Road, Tucson.
