Harriet Grace Hirsch's Obituary
Harriet Grace (Soshnick) Hirsch, 83, of Tucson passed away January 20, 2018 in Tucson. Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, and love of her life, Robert (Bob) Hirsch. She is survived by her children Julie (Brian) Hills and David Hirsch; grandchildren Renée (Matt) Fixel, William Brown, and Lillian and Vivian Hirsch. Harriet was born in New York City to William and Fannie Soshnick. She attended Bronx Science High School, went on to Skidmore College where she majored in Psychology, and then achieved a Masters in Education at Columbia University Teachers College. Harriet and Bob married in 1956 - theirs was a love like no other. Harriet and Bob enjoyed classical music, art, travel, and spending time with family and friends. Harriet was a teacher in New York City, and in Gopinger, Germany. Shortly after returning to the US, Harriet and Bob headed west and settled in Tucson in 1962. She returned to teaching as a Special Education teacher in the mid 1980s, where she found success and joy in helping students who were struggling to learn to read. Harriet’s family would like to express gratitude to the team of caregivers at Via Eleganté who cared for her with love and compassion the last seven months. She was truly happy there.
