Harry was my first real friend in Washington. We met in 1978 on the L1 busline and we both worked for the Congressional Research Service at the Library of Congress. My favorite story about Harry? He drove a stick shift car with the stick on the steering wheel. It was always a clunky car to drive but it decided to pay him back one day and stop dead in the middle of Rock Creek Park. The reason? He forgot to put oil in it! I was pregnant with my first child in 1981 when this happened and Harry was so worried that I would go into labor while waiting for AAA! OF course, I did not, but I liked to kid him about putting oil in his car whenever I saw him.
It is a coincidence that I write this today even though it is the one year anniversary of his passing. He was a dear friend to me - always so kind and funny - and I treasured his friendship.
Rest in peace, my friend.
