Helen May Burchell's Obituary
Helen May Burchell
1925-2016.
Born Tecumseh, MI Aug. 16, 1925. Given a life expectancy of 6 months to a year after a three-year battle with tuberculosis, she moved to Tucson in hopes the warm dry climate might allow her to live a little longer. It did. She died here peacefully at home more than 60 years later, on June 25, 2016.
In the intervening years she worked as a bakery manager and grocery cashier for a number of stores before retiring in 1990, and was active in the Retail Clerk's Union. She was also a Cub Scout den mother for many years, enjoyed long drives looking at the desert scenery and was an avid Arizona Wildcat basketball fan..
Survived by daughter Paula Cook, sons Joseph and James Burchell (Petra), all of Tucson, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband Joseph Sr. and son David. Services to be determined.
