Helen Clemenson's Obituary
Helen Clemenson, 95, of Tucson, AZ, passed away on March 31, 2015. Born April 8, 1919 in Ellsworth Township, Minnesota to Bertha and Louis Mattsfield, Helen was one of 11 siblings. After attending teachers’ training, Helen taught elementary school until she married Raymond Clemenson in 1940. Helen and Ray ran Clem’s Resort, between lakes Stella and Washington in central Minnesota until 1956. In addition to raising her three daughters, Helen helped run the resort. She and Ray also helped found the All Saints Lutheran Church in Darwin, Minnesota, where Ray was the first church president. After leaving the resort they moved to Hutchinson, Minnesota where Ray ran a school bus business. Again they helped establish a new Lutheran church, Christ the King, in Hutchinson, where Helen was often a Sunday school teacher or church camp counselor. Helen was also active as a Girl Scout Troop Leader and as a member of the school board. When their first grandchild was born in Tucson, AZ, Helen and Ray began spending their winters there. After Ray’s death in 1983, Helen moved to Arizona permanently. Helen is survived by sisters Joyce Ness and Lorraine Dummer; her 3 daughters and their husbands, Annette and Shelby Meyer of Tucson, AZ, Sandra and Mark Hanneman of Champlin, MN and Lynn and Denny Marudas of Bozeman, MT; 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Helen will be interred in Litchfield, Minnesota at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
