Irene Diamos' Obituary
Irene Diamos "Yia Yia" 91, passed away peacefully July 6, 2013, at the home of her granddaughter in Denver, CO. Mrs. Diamos was born Sept. 2, 1921 in Pittsburgh, PA. She attended the Winchester Thurston School. Irene married George Diamos in 1947 and they made their home in Tucson. An avid gardener and party host, Irene loved summers in Del Mar with her dearest friend Katherine and their grandchildren. She dedicated her life to raising her daughter and then her granddaughter thereafter. She truly shined in the presence of her great grandchildren. She celebrated her faith at the Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Tucson. Irene's family wrote: "Yia Yia loved with all of her heart. Her kindness and generosity were an inspiration to all who knew her. Yia Yia will be dearly missed." She is survived by her daughter Louise Vander-Heyden of Tucson, granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Anita and Tony Lee of Denver, CO; great grandchildren, Maximos McDonald, Gregory McDonald, Theodore Lee and Vivian Irene Lee of Denver CO. Mrs. Diamos was preceded in death by her Husband George Diamos. Visitation Thursday July 11, from 6-9 PM at the EVERGREEN MORTUARY. A Celebration of her life will be held Friday 10:00 AM at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. Interment to follow Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Irene's name to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
