Isiah Roberts' Obituary
Isiah Roberts, 95, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on May 6, 2024, during a short bout with pneumonia.
Isiah was born on October 20, 1928, to Viola Fletcher and Charles Roberts in Elgin, Texas. He, however, was lovingly raised by his Aunt Janie Taylor in Goliad, Texas, from the age of six. After graduating from Goliad High School in 1946, he went on to study engineering for three years.
In 1948 he met Naomi Johnson here in Tucson and they married the following year. Their union lasted 55 years until her death. They were not blessed with any children.
Isiah had two careers and he found them both thoroughly fulfilling. He was a very proud retired veteran and then a civil servant spending most of his career on Davis-Monthan Air Force Base maintaining aircraft in the Boneyard (the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG). He received and was proud of each of his long list of commendations.
Isiah enjoyed two things – WrestleMania and strawberry ice cream and was thoroughly pleased with himself when he successfully arranged both at the same time. Though I would tease him endlessly about the silliness of fake fighting, he would not miss a single Friday night match up!
Isiah is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and countless cousins.
Isiah was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, Viola Fletcher and Charles Roberts, the Aunt who raised him and whom he considered his mother, Janie Taylor, his brothers, Rudolph and Clarence, and his sister Beatrice Rogers. Waiting for him at the Door to Heaven will be his loving wife Naomi.
Services will be held at Evergreen Mortuary, Cemetery and Crematory, in Tucson, Arizona, on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 11 a.m.
