Jack Stanley Brunner's Obituary
Jack S. Brunner 10/19/1920 - 4/22/2014 Jack was born in Indiana while his family was visiting family, however he lived most of his life in Tucson, Az. As a young boy, he had numerous jobs such as a newspaper route, Liberty Magazine route, worked as a dishwasher for his father's restaurant and gas station attendant. He was a Boy Scout. He loved weight lifting and held several Pima County Y.M.C.A. awards. He enlisted in the Navy and was a Chief Machinist and deep sea diver. His job as a diver was to help bring up planes and missing personnel. He joined the Navy Reserves after WWII. After the Navy he worked as a Operating Engineer and heavy equipment operator, while being a member of the Operative Engineers Union. He worked for Tucson Rock & Sand, Ashton Const., A.E. Ward, R. H. Martin, Tucson Wholesale and Transfer and Chapman-Dyer Steel Manufacturing Company. He loved to swim and was a long time member and supporter of the Tucson Y.M.C.A. He owned several model A's and model T's. His first car being a 1927 Model T Ford that came with a wrench that fit everything on the car. He married his childhood sweetheart, Betty Lou Horten in 1947. They had one child, Gail Anne. After Jack retired, he went into business for himself as "Happy Jacks Repair Service". He could repair just about anything. He was always working in his garage on a "project". He loved to do many things on his computer. He became a great cook, had a crazy sense of humor, loved to pull pranks, and tell jokes. He had an amazing memory. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Evelyn Brunner; sister, Evelyn Durnil, and wife, Betty Lou. Jack moved to Barstow, CA, in 2004 to be with his family. Jack is survived by his daughter, Gail Johnson (Michael) and one granddaughter, Wendy Valdez (Rick) and four great- grandchildren, Ricardo, Matthias, Elyanna and Analucia. He remained in contact with his childhood friend, Beyrl Wilson of Tucson all these years. Services will be held at EVERGREEN MORTUARY at N. Oracle and Miracle Mile on Saturday, May 3, 2014, Viewing at 10:00 a.m., Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with graveside to follow.
