Jack Boyer ReVelle Ph. D's Obituary
Jack lived a long and productive life which translated into 4 careers, and he tried to make a difference for the better in each and every one.
He did it in ways that were often — memorable; sometimes major, but also on a personal level too.
Joining the U.S. Air Force after graduating from Purdue University, he became an Explosive Ordnance Disposal officer, and as a 2nd Lt. led teams working on two separate nuclear accidents, one of which is related in Joel Dobson's book "The Goldsboro Broken Arrow" (which is currently being scripted for a movie). Becoming disappointed with the situation following his service in Viet Nam, and after meeting and marrying his wife Brenda, he returned to college at Oklahoma State University on the GI Bill and became a Ph.D. and specialist in business management and statistics. Which led to his second career in which he tried to make statistics approachable for his students as a College Professor by engaging them in practical real-world examples and involving them with the local business community. Later he was the Founding Dean of the College of Business (which is now known as the "Argyros School of Business and Economics") at Chapman University in Orange, CA.
Then on to his next career, his years trying to improve management systems in the California Aerospace Industry while working for McDonnel Douglas, and Hughes Aircraft, which later became Raytheon, until he officially retired. Unable to sit around for his "retirement," he launched into his fourth and final chapter as a successful and popular business consultant, again making statistical theories approachable and leavening what could otherwise have been a dry subject with his wit and innovative methods. One of these included having CEOs and others in large corporations all around the United States rolling up their sleeves and throwing his "Balsa Buzzard" (the balsa wood airplane kits) down hotel hallways and measuring the results caused by changes such as paperclips attached to various parts of it to show them how to apply the theories most of them had no clue about.
Jack's many awards and accomplishments can be found in multiple editions of "Who's Who in America," up to and including its 2019 edition.
