James F. Brown, Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. James F. Brown, Sr., Age 99 of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, TN passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012. He was born February 14, 1912, in Greene County, GA, son of James H. H. Brown and Fanny Moore Brown. Jim was one of the last "Real Sons" of the Confederacy in the country. His father, who was born in 1841, fought with the Confederate States Army from 1861-64 and was with General Lee at Appomattox for the signing of the surrender in April 1865. As Jim approached the century mark, one could not disregard the coincidence of his birth with Arizona's centennial, February 14, 2012. Both Jim and Arizona turn one hundred on this date. Another coincidence of history associated with Jim's birthday is that on that same date in 1862, exactly fifty years earlier, Confederate President Jefferson Davis, by a special enabling act passed by the Confederate Congress, issued a proclamation attaching the Arizona Territory to the Confederate States of America. It was the first time the name Arizona was used in reference to the area. Jim was proudly aware of this historical fact, and was looking forward to celebrating both. Jim started in the hotel business in 1933 in Mobile, Alabama. He spent 10 years in Maine and eventually had his own hotel for 17 years in Franklin, PA. He was on the Pennsylvania Board of Hoteliers, Board Chairman of Franklin Hospital, and Salvation Army Board for 12 years. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a life member of Masons since 1936 (32nd Degree), member of Kiwanis since 1941, Shriners since 1948, Who's Who in America in 1960's, Hunter's Arizona Rangers Camp 1202 in Tucson. Jim Was the only Real Son of a Confederate Veteran in Arizona. Jim was preceded in death by his wives, Martha Lee Smith in Titusville, FL (1980), and Elizabeth Parker in Tucson, AZ (1999). He is survived by his son, James F. Brown, Jr. (Nancy) of Loudon, TN; stepdaughter, Marianne Fife (John M.) of Tucson, AZ; granddaughter, Laura Brown of Port Orange, FL; step-grandchildren, John Fife, III (Dee), David Fife (Jennifer) of Tucson, AZ and 6 great grandchildren, Sean, Haley, Trevor, Abbey, Carly, and Eliana. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Loudon Co. Habitat for Humanity, 298 Village Square Drive, #115, Loudon, Tennessee 37774 or Community Church of Tellico Village, 130 Chota Center, Loudon, TN 37774. EVERGREEN MORTUARY AND CEMETERY.
