James D. Grimes' Obituary
James D. “Jim” Grimes, Jr. was born October 13, 1950 in Tucson, Arizona to the late James D. Grimes Sr., and Alma (Dill) Grimes. A native Tucsonan, Jim graduated from Amphitheater High School in 1968. Upon graduating from high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served for eight years as an air traffic controller and later a medical technologist. Jim was honorably discharged in May 1977 and returned to Tucson. He attended the University of Arizona. He apprenticed as an Inside Wireman and joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 570. He worked as a journeyman electrician from 1979 through 1988 when he returned to the clinical laboratory at the University of Arizona Medical Center. He medically retired in 2011.
During his time on earth Jim became father to five wonderful children. His family was his life and he loved every minute with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed camping and fishing, traveling, especially visiting family in Minnesota and attending University of Arizona sporting events.
Jim was someone who could do anything from fixing a car, finding the best gift (spared no expense), helping those in need by sharing his talents and knowing what to do in any situation. He loved all things related to movies whether watching, critiquing, or owning them.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Cathy (DeLane) Grimes; children Jamie Grimes, James III (Janine) Grimes, Emily (Kevin) Clardy, Twila (Russell) Bratka, and Matthew Grimes; grandchildren, Caide, Brayden, Caleb, Kylie, Jacob, Jett, Carly and Kassius; ; sister, Connie Pedregon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Twila Bernal and Crystal Grimes.
Jim lived life on his own terms. He was a spiritual man who touched many lives during his time here on earth. We each will miss him in our own way, but are comforted to know that he is at peace.
