James Paul Shelton's Obituary
On March 10th, 2025, the world lost a true patriarch, a man whose heart overflowed with love and whose laughter could light up any room. James Paul Shelton, born on Christmas Eve, 1933, in Indianapolis, Indiana, was a gift to all who knew him. His 91 years were a testament to the power of family, the importance of hard work, and the enduring strength of a kind and generous spirit.
Paul, as he was affectionately known, possessed an unparalleled capacity for love. His generosity towards family and friends knew no bounds, his heart a haven of warmth and support for all who sought solace within it. A dedicated Mason and a Shriner, Paul lived by the tenets of brotherhood, charity, and integrity.
In 1974, he brought his family to Tucson, Arizona, where he dedicated his career to Hughes Aircraft, later Raytheon. His strong work ethic was surpassed only by his unwavering dedication to his loved ones.
He was a devoted father to Jeffery, Luella (Wingate), Elaine (Kono), and Jesse, showering them with a love that knew no limits. He embraced his role as father-in-law to Jeffry Wingate, Bill Kono, and Angelia Shelton with open arms and found immeasurable joy in his eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, each one a precious treasure in his eyes.
Paul’s passing leaves a void that can never truly be filled. His quick wit, his unwavering support, and the warmth of his embrace will forever be etched in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.
Though physically gone, his legacy of love and laughter will continue to resonate through the generations he leaves behind.
A private interment will be held in his home state of Indiana at Washington Park East Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his name to Shiners Children's Hospital. May his memory be a blessing, a beacon of love guiding us all towards a brighter tomorrow.
