Jason Raymond Hoben's Obituary
Jason ‘Jay’ Hoben
September 30, 1974 – October 18, 2025
Jason Hoben, aged 51, passed away on October 18, surrounded by the love of his family. Jason lived a life full of energy, creativity, and deep love for those closest to him.
Born in Tucson, Arizona on September 30, 1974 to Diane and Barry Hoben, Jason spent his early childhood in San Manuel and Mammoth, Arizona, where his father worked for the Magma Copper Mine. Alongside his two older brothers, Sean and Todd, and younger sister, Grace, Jason filled his days with laughter, exploration, and adventures that would become cherished memories. The desert hills and open spaces of Mammoth shaped his free spirit and love for the outdoors.
In his teenage years, Jason moved with his family to Mesa, Arizona. He was known for his unruly, rambunctious nature but with a fun heart and magnetic sense of humor. It was during this time that his passion for music took root. Inspired by Lars Ulrich and the heavy rhythms of Metallica, Jason taught himself to play the drums. More recently, he began exploring guitar, adding another layer to his musical self-expression.
It was in Mesa that Jason met the love of his life, Melanie (Armijo) Hoben. Together, they built a home and a life in Clifton, Arizona. Their bond was deep and enduring, rooted in love and shared adventures. They raised five beautiful children and celebrated the birth of two grandchildren.
Jason’s creativity extended far beyond music. He was a talented graffiti artist whose work reflected his unique perspective and animated spirit. He was also a passionate agriculturist, nurturing a small homestead with pride. Many afternoons were spent in the garden or out on long hikes with Melanie, rock hounding and finding beauty in the world around them. He was a hard worker, and with calloused hands and ingenuity, approached life with grit and a warm heart. His absence will be felt deeply by all who knew and loved him.
Jason was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Jason is survived by wife Melanie; children Joey, Jared, Julian, Mya, and Jayden; grandchildren Silas, and Tula; his three siblings, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Jason’s spirit will live on in the rhythm of a drumbeat, the laughter of his children, and the beauty of the desert landscape he loved so much.
A service to honor his memory will be held at a future date, and all who knew and loved him will be welcome.
